What is Laser Hair Removal?

'LASER' stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser uses targeted photons of light and the light from the laser is attracted to the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. Pigment is absorbed by the light energy which is then converted into heat. In order to destroy the hair follicle, the hair needs to be in the anagen state (active growth phase).

In order to achieve adequate hair reduction and meet treatment expectations, a series of treatments is required. A minimum of 6 - 8 treatments at 4 weekly intervals for lighter type of skins and darker skin types will usually require a minimum of 12 treatments at 4 weeks apart.

Maintenance treatments will be needed.

What can I expect post treatment of Laser hair removal?

- Follicular swelling (this looks like raised bumps) and skin sensitivity this may last between 48 - 78 hours.

- Mild to moderate erythema (redness)

- Exfoliation is encouraged at this stage to assist with the shedding of air and prevent ingrown hairs from occurring.

- Sunscreen must be applied daily.

Post treatment care

· Apply cold water to the treated area, use ice packs and apply the recommended product as per your clinician's advice. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen lotion every 4 hours.

· Do your best to avoid excessive sweating, do not take hot showers, do not exercise, take saunas, spa and swimming, shaving, waxing, plucking and exfoliating.

· 3 DAYS POST TREATMENT

· Continue to apply the recovery cream recommended by your clinician

· and SPF50+ sunscreen as instructed.

· Do not use any active products that contain AHA / BHA or retinol for 3-5 days.

· Continue a good skincare routine with an adequate daily amount of moisturiser.

· 5 DAYS POST TREATMENT

· Gently exfoliate with the microdermal cleansing scrub recommended by your clinician.

· 7 DAYS POST TREATMENT

· Keep away from sun exposure. Apply an SPF 50+ sunscreen throughout the day.
